About this Project: The Department of Homeless Services has contracted with the Children’s Rescue Fund to open a shelter for single adults at 1 Kenilworth Place, Brooklyn, NY 11210. This facility will provide 200 single adults experiencing homelessness, with priority given to those with roots in the community.

In 2017, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced, “Turning the Tide on Homelessness in New York City,” a borough-by-borough plan for addressing homelessness and the unique challenges of those experiencing homelessness. For more information on the Turning the Tide initiative, please visit www1.nyc.gov/site/dhs/about/tide. The Mayor’s plan seeks to ensure that quality sites will open while less effective facilities, such as cluster sites and commercial hotel locations, will be phased out. NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) and NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) will collaborate with community stakeholders to ensure that the facilities at 1 Kenilworth Place are integrated seamlessly into the community and our clients receive a warm welcome. We encourage community members to partner with us by volunteering and/or by joining the Community Advisory Board (CAB), which is established for each new site to hold regular meetings and maintain direct lines of communication between staff and the community.

About the Nonprofit Service Provider: Children’s Rescue Fund (CRF), a non-profit social services provider, is in the process of opening a shelter for single adults at 1 Kenilworth Place. This facility will provide 200 single adults experiencing homelessness with safety, security, social and support services, with priority at this location offered to individuals who have roots in this community and this area of Brooklyn more broadly.
