Avenue H Brighton Station ADA Project

Managing Agency: MTA-NYC Transit
Location:
Q-train station at Avenue H
Project Description
: A ramp will be installed on the northbound platform to make the Avenue H station fully ADA-accessible.
Date of Completion: June 29, 2021

Project Details: MTA NYC Transit and contractor, Gramercy Group, Inc., will be commencing a project which will make the Avenue H Q station fully ADA-accessible with the installation of an ADA ramp leading to the Manhattan-bound platform. During this project, the Avenue H station will remain open for customer use, except for work which will require occasional service diversions (see schedule below).  For approximately three weeks in early 2021,  Q trains will bypass Avenue H in the northbound direction while our contractor performs work to make the station ADA compliant.

Phase 1: Street work is scheduled to start in mid-October 2020 on Avenue H between East 15th Street and the dead end.  Our staging area will occupy parts of the street and south sidewalk, but access to the Brooklyn-bound platform and the two stores in the immediate area (Wong Laundromat at 1502 Avenue H and Lee’s Deli at 1506 Avenue H) will be maintained at all times.  In addition, access to all residential buildings on the block face (1502-1508 Avenue H) will be maintained at all times.  Construction hours will be 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. during weekdays, and this stage of construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2020.

Phase 2: The second phase of construction is currently scheduled to commence at the beginning of 2021, when the staging area transfers to Avenue H between East 16th Street and the dead end.  During this phase, there will be no parking on Avenue H between East 16th Street and the dead end.  The project will include providing a new Greenstreets area near the dead end when this project is completed.  Phase 2 is currently scheduled for completion in Summer 2021, at which time the entire project will be finished.

2021 Q-train Service Diversions due to Avenue H ADA Project:

Friday, February 12 @ 10 PM – Tuesday, February 16 @ 5 AM (Presidents’ Day holiday weekend):  Northbound Q trains will bypass the Avenue H Q station.  Customers will be asked to travel to the Newkirk Plaza station and take a southbound Q train in order to access the Avenue H station.  Customers beginning their trip at Avenue H should take a southbound train to Avenue J and take a northbound Q train.

Monday, March 15 – Monday, April 5 (3 weeks):  Northbound Q trains will bypass the Avenue H Q station.  Customers will be asked to travel to the Newkirk Plaza station and take a southbound Q train in order to access the Avenue H station.  Customers beginning their trip at Avenue H should take a southbound train to Avenue J and take a northbound Q train.

Friday, March 26 @ 10 PM – Monday, March 29 @ 5 AM:  Northbound Q service will operate express all weekend between Kings Highway and Prospect Park.  Customers will be asked to utilize southbound trains to access the station and commence their trips.

Tuesday, June 29, 2021 Press Release: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is happy to announce that the Avenue H Q station ADA project has been completed.  Beginning on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, customers are able to access the northbound platform by utilizing an ADA-accessible ramp.  Combined with the previously-existing ADA ramp leading to the southbound platform, the entire Avenue H station is now ADA-accessible. We thank the community for their patience while this construction project took place, and we are proud to be able to provide Midwood with an ADA-accessible station that it deserves.
