NYC Plastic Bag Ban Begins March 1, 2020

Posted on:

On March 1, 2020, New York State‚Äôs law banning single-use plastic carryout bags takes effect. In New York City, businesses will be required to collect a 5-cent fee on paper carryout bags from customers. The ban and fee are efforts to reduce the use of wasteful single-use bags and their negative impact on the environment. SNAP or WIC users will not be charged any paper bag fees. Residents are encouraged to bring reusable bags to stores. Free reusable bags are available at Brooklyn Community Board 14 while supplies last. Please call CB14 at 718-859-6357 with any questions. For more information, visit NYC’s Plastic Bag Ban website.
