Special Passover Sanitation Collections

Posted on: March 16, 2009

Brooklyn Community Board 14 is pleased to announce that Department of Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty has once again approved the Board’s plan for additional Sanitation collection services in portions of the Flatbush, Midwood and Kensington areas to assist our residents in preparation for Passover observances. The plan provides for an additional collection on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 and Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

Residents should call 311 to schedule a pick-up by the Parks Department of any tree branches and/or debris prior to the supplemental collection, since the agency will not remove tree debris due to the Asian-Beetle crisis.  Additionally, Department of Sanitation policy requires a special appointment for removal of discarded refrigerators and/or air conditioners. Arrangements can be made by calling 311 or by visiting their web site, www.nyc.gov/sanitation, and prior to the week of March 30th to ensure pick-up before the holiday.

It is important to prepare early and utilize the regular Sanitation services the week before for bulk items in order to avoid an excessive volume of debris that could impede planned schedules. The use of plastic bags for these special collections that will also include pick-up of recycling materials is strongly suggested.

All materials should be placed at curbside the evening before the scheduled pickup

Special thanks to the Department of Sanitation Borough Superintendent Joseph Montgomery, District Superintendent Daniel Stine, Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte, Commanding Officer of the 70th Precinct, as well as our own local elected officials for their assistance in developing the plan.

House of Worship patrols have been coordinated by Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte and the 70th Precinct to provide additional Police coverage for religious facilities during Passover.

If you have any questions regarding the Passover supplementary schedules, please call the Community Board 14 District Office at 718-859-6357 during the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.
