Community Board 14 was recently informed about the following opportunity for young people to apply for jobs with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation:

What is the MillionTreesNYC Training Program?

Recognizing the MANY benefits trees provide New York City’s residents, neighborhoods and environment, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York Restoration Project created the MillionTreesNYC tree planting and stewardship initiative that established the goal of planting one million new trees throughout the City’s five boroughs by 2017. In order to make this a reality, MillionTreesNYC started a 7-month “green-collar” job training program that will produce a class of highly trained green professionals. The program begins on October 5, 2009 and runs through April 2009. Trainees will work 33 hours a week, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, and will earn $10.24 per hour.

Applicants must be committed to working a full-time schedule Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
