Dear Community Resident:
Common Ground, a non-profit that helps find permanent housing for New York’s homeless, has begun utilizing 800 East 12th Street, formerly the Oak Hotel, for its “Street to Home” program.
In response to overwhelming community concern and questions about the operation of this facility for this purpose, I am calling an emergency meeting for:

School Safety Improvement Phase I for Public School 217
The New York City Department of Education, the School Construction Authority, and the Department of Design and Construction, has informed CB14 that they will begin work on the School Safety Improvements for Public School 217, which is located at Newkirk Avenue and Coney Island Avenue.
The project will include the following improvements:
- Pedestrian curb extensions on the northeast and southeast corners of Coney Island Avenue and Newkirk Avenue
- Pedestrian curb extensions on the northwest and southeast corners of Newkirk Avenue and Westminster Road
- Pedestrian refuge in the middle of Coney Island Avenue and Newkirk Avenue, and
- Other work pertaining to distribution water mains, hydrants, catch basins, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, traffic lights, street lighting and trees.
Work will be conducted in the following manner:
- Work 9 AM to 2 PM Monday to Friday
- Work 4 PM to 10 PM Monday to Friday; no work on January 9, 10, 11 and March 6, 7, and 8
- Work Saturday and Sunday 9 AM to 6 PM
- Note: On weekdays that school is not in session, contractor may also work 7 AM to 6 PM
- During working hours, occupy 11 foot of roadway adjacent to the curb while maintaining one eleven foot lane for traffic on one way streets and two eleven foot lanes in each direction on two way streets
- During working hours may occupy/close one crosswalk at a time posting necessary signage to notify pedestrians to use other crosswalks
- After working hours, enclose work zone by occupying 3 feet adjacent to curb and partial sidewalk while maintaining minimum 5 feet clear sidewalk for pedestrians. All crosswalks must be opened during non-working hours
