Special Passover 2011 Sanitation Collection Schedule

Dear Community Resident:

Brooklyn Community Board 14 is pleased to announce that Department of Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty has once again approved the Board’s plan for additional Sanitation collection services in portions of the Flatbush, Midwood and Kensington areas to assist our residents in preparation for Passover observances, which commences at sundown on Monday, April 18, 2011. The plan provides for an additional collection on Friday, April 15th and Monday, April 18thTo access the plan, click here.

Residents should call 311 to schedule a pick-up by the Parks Department of any tree branches and/or debris prior to the supplemental collection, since the agency will not remove tree debris. Additionally, Department of Sanitation policy requires a special appointment for removal of discarded refrigerators and/or air conditioners. Arrangements can be made by calling 311 or by visiting their web site, www.nyc.gov/sanitation, and prior to the week of April 14th to ensure pick-up before the holiday.

All mattresses placed out for collection must be sealed in plastic.  Failure to do so will result in a summons.

It is important to prepare early and utilize the regular Sanitation services the week before for bulk items in order to avoid an excessive volume of debris that could impede planned schedules. The use of plastic bags for these special collections that will also include pick-up of recycling materials is strongly suggested.

Please note: All materials should be placed at curbside on Sunday, April 17 after 5 p.m. The cut-off for all pick-up including Chometz is 12 noon, Monday, April 18th.

House of Worship patrols have been coordinated by Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte and the 70th Precinct to provide additional Police coverage for religious facilities during the Passover and Easter Holy days.

Special thanks to the Department of Sanitation Borough Superintendent Thomas Killeen, Deputy Chief Rosario Romano, District Superintendent Daniel Stine, Commanding Officer of the 70th Precinct Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte, as well as our own local elected officials for their assistance in developing the plan.

If you have any questions regarding the Passover supplementary schedules, please call the Community Board 14 District Office at 718-859-6357 during the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.

Sincerely,

Doris Ortiz
District Manager
