No Q Train Service Between Prospect Park and Stillwell Avenue This Weekend

No trains between Prospect Park and Stillwell Av Weekend, 9:30 PM Fri to 5 AM Mon, Sep 24 – 27

D, F and N trains and free shuttle buses provide alternate service

Two shuttle bus routes provide express and local service:

Express buses run between Stillwell Av and Prospect Park stopping at West 8 St, Ocean Pkwy, Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Neck Rd, Avenue U, Kings Hwy, Flatbush Av 2 train and Prospect Park Q train.  Transfer between shuttle buses and trains at Prospect Park, Flatbush Av 2 train and Stillwell Av D, F, and N Stations.

Local buses run between between Prospect Park and Kings Hwy Q Stations.

Transfer between shuttle buses and Q and S trains at Prospect Park.

• To connect between stations in the express and local shuttle bus areas, transfer between shuttle buses at Kings Hwy.

Note to Manhattan-bound customers between Kings Hwy and Stillwell Av:

For faster service to Manhattan, take the express or local shuttle bus to Stillwell Av and transfer to the D, F or N trains.

70th Precinct’s Annual Medal Day Awards Ceremony

On Sunday, September 19, 2010, Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte and the 70th Precinct hosted the annual Medal Day awards ceremony at the United Cerebral Palsy NYC complex on Lawrence Avenue.   Officers, family and community residents came out in droves to show their support of the NYPD and to congratulate those officers who served with distinction in the last year.

Another Successful Chaand Raat Festival

On Thursday evening, September 9, 2010, the American Council of Minority Women and the Pakistani community held a very successful Chaand Raat Festival on Coney Island Avenue between Foster Avenue and Avenue H with many local residents, community leaders and elected officials in attendance.

CB14 Office Closed, No Garbage, Recycling Collection or Street Cleaning on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has informed CB14 that in observance of Labor Day, there will be no garbage or recycling collection, or street cleaning on Monday, September 6, 2010.  In addition, CB14 will be closed on Monday, September 6th, in observance of the holiday.

Residents who normally receive Monday garbage collection should place their trash out at curbside Monday after 5 P.M. for pickup.  Those receiving Monday recycling collection will not have their recycling picked up until the following Monday, September 13th.

Pesticide Spraying Notification to Reduce Mosquito Activity in Brooklyn

Weather Permitting, Pesticide Application by Trucks is Scheduled for Thursday, September 2, 2010 between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM the Following Morning in Parts of: Midwood

A map of areas to be treated is available at http://nyc.gov/health/wnv (click “Spray Schedule”).

Due to rising West Nile virus and adult mosquito activities in Brooklyn including parts of Midwood, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) will spray pesticide from trucks from 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2010 to 6:00 AM on Friday, September 3, 2010. If weather does not permit, or equipment malfunctions occur, spraying will be delayed until Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

The NYC DOHMH advises persons to stay indoors during the ground spraying of pesticides. For additional information regarding Anvil and other mosquito control products, please see our website at: http://nyc.gov/health/wnv.

Please note that the application may be delayed as a result of unfavorable weather conditions
(i.e., rain, high winds) or equipment malfunction. For more up-to-date information on the spraying activities, you may call City Information at 3-1-1 or visit online spray schedule at http://nyc.gov/html/doh/html/wnv/wnvspray.shtml. In addition, extensive information is also available on the City’s website at: http://nyc.gov/health/wnv.

In the event of rain, high winds or equipment malfunction, all operations will continue on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 between the hours of 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM the following morning, weather permitting.
