Fall 2009 Leaf Collections
Thursday, October 29th, 2009The Department of Sanitation has announced that, once again, there will be no composting program due to budget constraints. Raked leaves will be collected with regular household refuse. Leaves do not have to be placed in clear bags as in the past.
Please remember that it is still illegal for landscapers to dispose of yard waste by placing it at the curb for Sanitation Department collection. Landscapers must bring leaf and yard waste to a composting facility. Fines for lack of compliance are $25 for the first violation, $50 for the second violation, and $100 for the third and each subsequent violation.
If you are interested in donating the leaves for composting, Project LeafDrop (www.nycleaves.org) is organizing drop off sites for leaves. 6/15 Green Garden (www.615green.org) in Park Slope will be accepting leaves from the public at two locations: On November 8th and 21st from 11 AM to 1 PM at the community garden on Albemarle Road and Buckingham Road, and on the weekends of November 7-8, 14-15, and 21-22, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the community garden on 6th Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets.
